Early July Red & Yellow Garden 2013

This garden used to be called the butterfly garden. I'm slowly switching to a more cohesive look.
All pictures July 15 unless otherwise noted.

The front of the garden looking from the street, left corner.

Stokesia laevis 'Klaus Jelitto' (Stoke's Aster). This will divided and moved in the fall.

Color echo. Platycodon grandiflorus 'Sentimental Blue' (balloon flower)  and Stokesia. The balloon flower is being crowded out by other plants and is almost gone at this point.

The middle of the bed. I'm thinking of thinning out the coreopsis a bit.

Penstemon 'Dark Towers' (beardtongue), Coreopsis verticillata 'Zagreb' (tickseed), Hemerocallis siloam Show Girl (daylily), Asclepias tuberosa 'Hello Yellow' (butterfly weed), Sedum 'Purple Emperor' (showy stonecrop)

The middle and far end of the garden

Asclipias tuberosa (butterfly weed) and Echinacea purpurea 'Magnus' (Eastern purple coneflower)

Achillea millefolium 'Red Velvet' (yarrow), Panicum virgatum 'Cheyenne Sky' (red switch grass)

Monarda didyma 'Raspberry Wine' (bee balm). This is one of the few blooms that didn;t get ruined by the horsemint catepillar

Heuchera 'Fire Chief' and Huechera 'Midnight Rose' (coral bells)

Heliopsis helianthoides var. scabra 'Summer Sun' (aka 'Sommersonne') (false sunflower). This had just started blooming

Hibiscus newly planted this year. I don't know the cultivar but when it flowers I will try to find out.

Lilium 'Blackout' (Asiatic lily). This was the very last lily of the season. I'm going to be moving these more to the middle of the bed where it can be seen better. July 13.
